In a release to the public, Madza announced that they recommend consumers only use genuine Mazda parts for any repairs done on vehicles, stating that the aftermarket parts could be lower quality and lower safety standards, as well as could make the car’s original warranty invalid.
These comments are similar to ones made by Honda last year, which was followed by three industry organizations, the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA), the Automotive Oil Change Association (AOCA) and the Tire Industry Association (TIA), who all sent a letter to the Federal Trade Association, stating that these claims were misleading.
Eventually, the FTC issued a Consumer Alert that states that it’s illegal for manufacturers or dealers to say a warranty is void after a customer uses aftermarket parts or service.
