The Importance of Car Care04.25.2019 | Okan Sengullu

Many of us see the oil or tire light begin to blink on our dashboard but wait a few days, or even weeks, to go to an auto shop for repairs. There is a reason why specific car maintenance should happen after every designated mileage. When you hold off on car repairs, you could be increasing vehicle damage and, ultimately, find yourself on the side of the road with a broken down car. Not only that, but costs will significantly raise. Stay ahead of the neglect and follow these simple rules for car repair in Chicago.

Check the Car Care Guide

This guide is a manual that should be kept in your glovebox compartment. It’s a reminder to perform the most common routine procedures so your car is working as well as it can. Fluids, brake system, and tires—these are just a few maintenance procedures to keep your eye on.

Mileage and Repairs

At the 3,000 mile mark (roughly driving a car for three months), you should check on your battery and cables, lights, and tire inflation and condition. You’ve driven your car for six months, or 6,000 miles. What should be looked at? Most likely your belts, engine oil, and windshield washer fluid (to name a few). At nine months, the same possible repairs should be looked at as three months prior. Again, all of these are just a few from a long list. Make sure you are referring to your car’s manual. Once you have been driving your car for a year, coolant, wiper blades, and wheel alignment are good places to start. However, it’s always smart to have annual car inspections.
